Betting Preview 29th March 2013 Charlton Blackburn Rovers vs Blackpool
Its been a while since the last Championship betting Preview but its back and this week we are looking at Blackburn Rovers vs Blackpool. A local derby between two teams that at the beginning of the season big things were expected in terms of being potential promotion candidates.
The reality couldn’t be much different as they are both on equal points sitting a mere 4 points off the relegation zone, making this game crucial for both teams if they want to escape the threat of relegation.
Lets have a look at Blackburn first, on their 6th manager of the season and yes that is right 6th manager of the season! Leaving Gary Bowyer in charge of the team for the 2nd time this season. To be fair last time he was in charge he managed 3 wins and a draw from and the players really seemed to respect him and put in the performances to match their wages. The question is can he pick up the players again who were on a woeful run under the stewardship of Michael Appleton who lasted a mere 67 days in charge not much less than the amount of time he was manager at today’s opponents Blackpool earlier in the season.
Anyway lets look at the stats, in the last 5 games Blackburn have only picked up 2 points with 2 draws and 3 losses, scoring only 3 and conceding 8. Now part of the reason for this is that somehow the now vacated manager managed to nullify the goal threat of arguably the best finisher in the division Jordan Rhodes through negative tactics. Now I cant see the new manager making making the same mistake and expect at least a goal from Jordan Rhodes in this game. But can the defence be sorted out?
Blackburn Rovers 0 – 0 Leeds United
Leicester City 3 – 0 Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers 2 – 3 Peterborough United
Bolton Wanderers 1 – 0 Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers 1 – 1 Burnley
Now lets look at the Blackpool who on the face of it are not on a great run by any means but have managed to pick up 6 points in the last 5 games with 3 draws and a win scoring 3 but only conceding 3 along the way. Pointing to a tight defence lacking that killer instinct when in front of goal. They will be going into this game expecting to come away with at least a point. And I’m sure Paul Ince a former Blackburn manager will be getting his players fired up for this game.
Blackpool 0 – 0 Leicester City
Blackpool 0 – 0 Bristol City
Birmingham City 1 – 1 Blackpool
Watford 1 – 2 Blackpool
Blackpool 0 – 1 Peterborough United
So what does the above mean for the betting options? Well I can see the new manager (albeit not completely new) for Blackburn having a positive impact so would expect Blackburn to sneak the win by a goal possibly 2-1 and so would have a moderate bet on the Blackburn win although a little risky looking at the form. A safer bet in my opinion would be over 1.5 goals market as I can see both teams having to open up a bit as too many draws at this point of the season is little use to anyone, because of this goals could be on the cards but certainly not a bucket load.
