Championship Weekend Preview September 2012

Betting Preview 29th September 2012 Charlton Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers

This week we are going to look at the Charlton vs Blackburn game.

First we will look at Blackburn who are currently sitting 3rd in the table although if you had seen some of their performances this season you would be forgiven for wondering how.

They do have the quality in their squad though to win games even when not playing well, But they are also conceding goals at an alarming rate and won’t keep being able to outscore the opposition as they found out last Friday against Middlesbrough when they suffered there 1st defeat of the season.

Add to this the current turmoil at the club especially around their inept manager Steve Kean’s future and the fans boycotting games due to his continued presence at the club, this is bound to have a negative effect on the players performing on the pitch. For the above reasons I would be wary of betting on Blackburn to take the 3 points although with the squads on paper it would seem a formality.

Below are the stats for Blackburn’s last 5 games. You will see that there have been plenty of goals for and against in fact their last 5 games have averaged a whopping 4.6 goals! This could suggest a potential goals scored (Overs) betting opportunity.

Blackburn Rovers 2 – 1 Leicester City
Leeds United 3 – 3 Blackburn Rovers
Bristol City 3 – 5 Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers 2 – 1 Barnsley
Blackburn Rovers 1 – 2 Middlesbrough

Now we will have a look at Charlton who are having differing fortunes this season sitting 18th in the league, having won only one of their last 5 games in a game against Ipswich last Saturday. Based on their current form I would not want to bet on Charlton for a win either. Their goal to game average over the last 5 matches comes out as 2 goals a game a lot lower than Blackburn’s.

Charlton Athletic 0 – 0 Hull City
Nottingham Forest 2 – 1 Charlton Athletic
Charlton Athletic 0 – 1 Crystal Palace
Derby County 3 – 2 Charlton Athletic
Ipswich Town 1 – 2 Charlton Athletic

Looking at both teams stats and form we would personally go for a goals bet playing it safe betting on their being more that 1.5 goals or going a maybe bit more risky on there being more than 2.5 goals in the game. This is based mainly on Blackburn’s ability to score and not keeping a clean sheet in the last 5 games which I can’t see changing anytime soon. As I am expecting both teams to score at least 1 goal each I see the goals market as the safest option for a bet on this game.
